EmailLabs Client Support Center
FEATURE TUTORIAL - Segments

Segments will help you target your message to a specific customer group.  When you create a Segment and then attach it to a message, the message will only be sent to the customers that meet the restrictions of the Segment.  These can be demographic restrictions or activity restrictions.  A demographic restriction would be dependent upon the different demographics that you have enabled in the EmailLabs system.  For example:  With a demographic restriction, you can send your message to all customers in a specific state, or that are a specific gender or both.  With an activity restriction, you could send your message to customers that opened a previous message or clicked on a link.  You can combine demographic restrictions and activity restrictions in a Segment as well.

Creating the Segment
Step 1: Click on Segments on the left hand navigation bar.

In our example, we will select a Regular Message and click SAVE & NEXT>>.

Step 12:  The next step is to decide which activity restriction to use.  You can base your Segment on:

1 - Who was sent the message

2 – Who opened the message at least 1 time (the number can be changed accordingly)

3 – Who opened the message and clicked on a link

You can also select Match Inverse to match the opposite of the restriction.

For our example, we will base our Segment on customers that opened the previous message.
Once you have decided which to select, click NEXT>>

Step 17:  Once the Segment has generated, it will give you the results.  It will tell you if there are any member records that meet the Segment’s restrictions that are active or trashed.  Trashed email addresses would be in the Unsubscribed, Bounced or Admin Trash folders.  You will be able to view the addresses or download them into a file.  It will also tell you the date and time that the Segment was generated.

Step 18:  When you close the results window, your screen will not show that the Segment has been generated yet.  You will need to refresh your browser window to show the generation of the Segment.  Once the window has been refreshed, you will see the last date the Segment was generated and how many active member records meet the restrictions of the Segment.
